This
Mapserver allows you to view and analyze
NASA's GIS data. You can access the mapserver
directly from the data set descriptions.
The mapserver was created using ESRI's ArcIMS 9.1 software.
The mapserver is Open Geospatial Consortium
(OGC) Web Map Service (WMS) compliant.
Note: Accessing Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) WMS layers from external
servers may take several seconds to load.
Viewer
The map viewer is divided into three
active layers.
Toolbar (Located on Left): provides tools
that allow you to analyze the map.
Map
(Located in Center): displays raster and
vector data.
Legend (Located
on Right): displays a list of available
layers.
The toolbar contains tools that allow you
to view and analyze the map. (Not all tools will be
available at all times.)
Zoom In
Click the "Zoom In" tool
and click on an area of the map to zoom
on that region of the map. You can also zoom in
to a selected area by clicking and dragging
the
mouse to create a box over your area of
interest. Note that some layers on the map
may appear or disappear depending on the scale
of the map.
Zoom Out
Click the "Zoom Out"
tool to zoom out on the map. Note that some
layers on the map may appear or disappear depending
upon the current scale.
Full Extent
Click the "Zoom To Full Extent"
tool to view the full extent of the main map.
Zoom to Active Layer
Click the "Zoom To Active Layer"
tool to view the active layer that is selected on the map.
Back to Last Map Extent
Click the "Back To Last Map Extent"
tool to go back to the previous map extent.
Pan
Click the "Pan" tool to move
around the map without changing the scale
of
the map.
Pan to North
Click the "Pan To North" tool
to move north on the map without changing
the scale of the map.
Pan to South
Click the "Pan To South" tool
to move south on the map without changing
the scale of the map.
Pan to East
Click the "Pan To East" tool
to move east on the map without changing
the scale of the map.
Pan to West
Click the "Pan To West" tool
to move west on the map without changing
the scale of the map.
Identify
Click the "Identify" tool and
then select a feature on the map to identify
the attribute information for a data layer.
Query
Click the "Query" tool to query
and retrieve attribute information for
a
particular data layer.
Measure
Click the "Measure" tool to measure
a distance on the map. Click a
starting point on the map. A red dot will
appear. Then click on your
next point where another red dot will
appear. The total length of the
segment will be shown in a results box
on the top left-hand corner of
the map. Use the "Clear Selection"
tool to close the measure tool.
Set Units
Click the "Set Units" tool to
select the distance unit for the map.
Choose
between feet, miles, meters, and kilometers.
Click the "Select Units" button
to set the units for the map.
Select by Rectangle
Click the "Select By Rectangle"
tool to select an area bounded in a rectangle.
Select by Line/Polygon
Click the "Select By Line/Polygon"
tool to select a particular line or
polygon attribute data.
Clear Selection
Click the "Clear Selection" tool
to clear any previous action or selection
performed on the map.
Print
Click the "Print" map tool to
print the current map view. You will get
an option that will allow you to add a
title. Click on the "Create
Print Page" to generate a layout that
you can print.
Options
Click the "Option" tool to select
options to further customize your
map. A drop down box will appear in the
bottom of the viewer with
options that you can use to customize
the map.
Load Map Service
Click the "Load Map Service"
button to load another map service into
the map viewer. A drop-down box will allow
you to select a desired map
service.
